Hey there! Ever wonder how a Navy Corpsman ends up teaching people about real estate? Well, grab a coffee and let me tell you my story!
I’m an Oregon native who grew up surrounded by mountains and endless trees. But wanderlust hit hard, and next thing you know, I’m signing up for the Navy! For 20 years, I worked as a corpsman (that’s military-speak for medical field), meeting incredible people and exploring cultures I never dreamed I’d experience.
Fast forward to 2015 – there I was, fresh out of Oregon State with a Healthcare Administration degree, working for the State of Idaho in Boise. Then came the big leap: buying my first home. Talk about intimidating! I had absolutely no clue what I was doing. Finding a real estate agent? Understanding the process? It was like trying to solve a puzzle in the dark.
But here’s where it gets good – not only did I figure it out, but that whole experience lit a fire in me. I got my real estate license in Idaho (2020) and Wyoming (2022), and something kept nagging at me: why does buying or selling a home have to be so confusing?
That’s when the lightbulb moment hit. What if I could help other people avoid that deer-in-headlights feeling I had as a first-time buyer? And boom – Something Different RE was born in 2024.
Now, I spend my days breaking down real estate into bite-sized, easy-to-understand pieces. No fancy jargon, no pressure, just straight talk about buying and selling homes. Because let’s be real – everyone deserves to feel like a boss when making such a huge life decision!

Katie Ocana is the founder of Kind Heart Investments, a real estate investing company created to make a positive and lasting impact in people’s lives. With a mission rooted in compassion, the company helps homeowners facing foreclosure by offering cash-based solutions tailored to their unique situations.
Guided by the belief that everyone deserves stability and hope, Kind Heart Investments is also expanding to provide affordable housing options by creating opportunities for individuals and families to thrive. At its core, the company is driven by a deep commitment to uplifting others and fostering a sense of security during life’s most challenging moments.
When not building Kind Heart Investments, Katie finds joy in traveling to new destinations, discovering the richness of diverse cultures, indulging in unique and flavorful cuisines, and seeking out meaningful experiences that broaden perspectives. Passionate about learning and personal growth, Katie cherishes the connections and insights gained from exploring the world and embracing its endless possibilities.
Steinar Steensland
Steinar grew up in Wyoming, he then decided to travel which landed him on the islands of Hawaii, earning a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Marketing from the Shidler College of Business at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
From there he spent two years negotiating contracts at a business law firm and spent a year as an Analyst at the premier sports data company in the world, Sportradar. Talk about the perfect prerequisites to a career in Real Estate!
His job is to make the real estate buying process seamless. Steinar will ask a lot of questions but the buyer/seller will make all of the decisions. He takes pride in the service he provides and is always available to help.
In his spare time, Steinar is an avid international traveler, snowboarder, and surfer.
